I just want to be able to switch outputs quickly AND be able to put some EQ on the speakers.Using Virtual Audio Cable and Audio Repeater to play sound or music over ventrillo. The new speakers sound great but I'm wondering how I should configure things software-wise (and if there's some good software I should download). I guess if I wanted to use Realtek's panel I'd have to use the analog output and make use of the onboard sound electronics of my motherboard, which probably wouldn't sound as good (however, this is a little puzzling since my Astro's also have their own DAC and they receive audio from Realtek via the Digital Optical output (optical cable), which I believe is also a pure digital signal, so that's kind of confusing).Īnyway, as you can see, I don't know exactly what I'm doing. I'd like to be able to have the Audioengine speakers show up in Realtek's control panel so that I can switch between that and my headset quickly as well as use the EQ in Realtek, but I'm guessing the reason it doesn't show up is because I'm coming straight out of the USB port of the PC and the speakers themselves are doing the converting with the built in DAC. That's the first bummer, since there doesn't seem to be any way to EQ from within the basic Sound Control Panel and another bummer is that I don't have both of my devices in Realtek to be able to switch between them quickly. The only way I can get sound is to go into the Sound interface in the Control Panel in Windows 7 and pick the A2's as Default. For some reason Realtek doesn't recognize these speakers and none of the devices I can select (Speaker, Digital Output, and Digital Output (Optical)) refers to the A2's. It has a pretty hokey interface but at least it's fairly fast to pick a device and set it as the default to get sound to that device (I hate having to do this every time but it's all I really know how to do).Īs most of you probably know, the A2+ has a built in DAC, so right now I have it configured to receive audio from USB since I don't have a dedicated sound card. I have an Asus Z87 Pro motherboard so Realtek is what I already have installed. I also want to be able to EQ the speakers a bit so I'm wondering if there's a way I can configure think with what I currently have, or if there's some kind of software interface I should use to EQ and/or manage switching between outputs. However, I'm wondering how I should run them exactly so they sound good and are convenient when I need to switch the output to my Digital Optical out in order to switch the sound to my Astro A40 headset (or Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro's which I also occasionally use).

I just got a pair of Audioengine A2+ bookshelf style powered speakers and they sound incredible.
